About Făget, in brief

Făget makes sense for a narrow set of travellers, and it is better to know that before you book. The town sits at the eastern edge of Timiș county, where the Banat plain lifts into the Poiana Ruscă mountains. It is not a city neighbourhood, it is not a suburb, and it is not a practical base for Timișoara. If you came to Timișoara for the Baroque square, the museums, the bars along the Bega, or to attend a university or a conference, sleeping in Făget means two hours or more of your day spent on a train or in a car, each way. Nobody chooses that twice.

The connection to Timișoara is by rail or road, and neither is quick. Regional trains on the Timișoara–Deva line stop at Făget, but the journey takes around two hours and twenty minutes to two and a half hours to Timișoara Nord, depending on the service, and there are only a handful of trains a day. A few are locomotive-hauled and reasonably comfortable; others are railcars with hard seats and no catering. Evening services are sparse, and the last train back from Timișoara can leave you choosing between an early dinner and a late night.
